Optimize firefox by removing bookmark favicons and icons

There are plenty of website now that show favicon in your bookmark and address bar. It is going to make your firefox slower by having hundreds of favicons in bookmark. There is a way to disable favicon showing in your firefox.

  1. Open about:config from address bar.
  2. Find the browser.chrome.site_icons preference name, and then double-click on it to change the value to false.
  3. Find the browser.chrome.favicon preference name, and then double-click on it to change the value to false.
  4. Close the about:config tab.
  5. The change should show immediatelly.

As for removing existing bookmark favicons from your bookmark you can use Favicon Picker firefox add-ons. You can search and locate the extension in firefox add-ons pages :).

The benefits of removing all of those favicons is that it will be faster when loading bookmarks and also when you have bookmark sidebar open it wil be faster when scrolling them. For me it also easier to find the items because I won't be distracted by seeing so many different colored favicons on my bookmarks. Maybe for some people it is easier to find the bookmark by looking at the favicon, but for me with hundreds of them opening in my sidebar it became a hassle because I won't remember anyway some of the website icons especially the new one.
